Weekly Update
October 19, 2020
Conferences: Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet with me to discuss your child last week. I enjoyed our time together. If you did not have a conference, please let me know. I will welcome the opportunity to meet with you. One of the downsides to online conferences is that you do not get the ability to see the school. Hanging during this time of conferences, is a self portrait of your child and his or her name in an acrostic poem using adjectives that they think describe them. These will come home in the next two weeks but until then, here is a picture.
Word Work: This week your child will be learning words that follow the long a digraph syllable pattern. Long a digraph syllable patterns use the following vowel teams; ai, ea, eigh, ay, and ey. This rule includes words like maid, great, eighty, tray, and survey. The words can be found on Spelling City to practice. Please remember to use the list that comes home to practice reading words, talk about the word’s meaning, and look for common patterns in the way the words are spelled. Please do not feel your child should be able to spell all the words on this list.
Math Games: We unfortunately did not get the opportunity to learn Ten Frame War last week so the game will come home later this week. Please keep all math games at home to continue playing throughout the year. Our hope is that students will play math games twice weekly if possible with an adult. This along with reading 15 minutes each night makes up our homework expectation.
Halloween: Due to building restrictions, we will not be able to have volunteers at our class party however we will still celebrate. I have created a sign up on Sign Up Genius for you to provide a snack for us to enjoy. During that day we will also make a craft, watch a short Halloween video and if time permits complete a Halloween themed breakout box together. Finally the children may wear their costumes all day to school on that Friday. Please email me if you have any questions.
