Weekly Update

Week of Feb. 22, 2021

 

1  2/22	We have Media Center. Books are due today.
1  2/23	We have Math Center.
2/24	We have gym.
2/25	We have art.
2/26	We have music.

Word Work: Our class will learn our new syllable pattern makes the sound as in push, could, and shook.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week. 

Math Update: We have completed our round of learning three ways to add numbers within 1000. We used open number lines, base 10 short-hand with partial sums, and finally regrouping (carrying). We are now working on using the same strategies but with subtraction. You may hear your student saying "math is hard" and indeed this can be a difficult concept developmentally because in education today, there is a push for understanding the why as well as the strategy. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

March Book Order:  Scholastic Book orders will be due Thursday, February 25th at the end of the school day.
