Weekly Update
Week of March 1, 2021
Word Work: Our class will learn the /ô/ syllable pattern that makes the sound as in small, draw, boss, and thought . Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.
March Is Reading Month: Hooray, its Reading Month! We are very excited for the activities that will be occurring at Lincoln School. You will be able to see information about it here, in Mr. Hubble’s blog, or in the Weekly Agenda in our Google Classroom Classwork. We will be doing the activities in class so the students just need to continue their great reading at home. It will be a fun month!
Math Update: We have completed our round of learning three ways to subtract numbers within 1000. As with addition, we used open number lines, base 10 short-hand with partial sums, and finally regrouping (carrying). We are now working on using the same strategies but with subtraction. As stated last week, both can be hard concepts and we will continue to practice through the end of the year as it is something they will use a lot in 3rd grade. You will also see this as a grade in the upcoming report card as "uses place value strategies to add and subtract within 1000."
